Normally I'd break these up into two seperate posts but since they are hosted by the same group I felt it was appropriate to join them into one blog post.
To start things off, I would like to say a special thanks to @primenyc.co for hosting these events along with @notanotherricer(Honda Collective). I found both of these meets were just incredible.
Last year, I was able to attend the Honda Collective Meet which takes place in NJ/NYC area celebrating the Golden Age of Honda's. For me this is like going to Japan each year, I feel like this is a mandatory event to attend.
Now this year was the same but different. Let me explain.
The first thing they did differently was there was pre-warning or prior post to what day the meet was going to happen. The night before at like 10p there was a single post saying "Surprise" see you tomorrow, lol
Luckily, I saw the post in time and was able to make the 4hr drive up in the morning to attend.
Just like the previous year, there were multiple stops throughout the day and just like the previous year the cars that came out were incredible.
The only difference was that there were less overall cars (which I'm guessing was the goal)
My car was completely not ready for the day although it did make the trip without too much of an issue, besides having to jump the battery. I mean it's a Honda. I can't wait till next year to bring my car out and get the iconic pics under the overpass
Honda Collection felt like a bunch of guys who haven't seen eachother in a year getting together to hangout.
For me the cars and the location is epic
Now at the same time but completely different you have the Grassroots meet, with its size and everything else that goes into it is more of a full event and better than most big branded events that you could attend.
What sets this event apart for others is all the cars are handpicked and this is a curated event. Which is something I've been finding done more and more. This I find results in the cleanest sets of cars. What I didn't expect was the sheer size of the location. The show took up an entire park area.
They controlled the where and how the cars were parked and as you can see the turnout and setup was incredible,
I got there super early so I could get roll-in. What I didn't realize was that rollin would never stop. With cars showing up over an hour after the show started.
Normally at a big event cars are packed in and parked so close together it is impossible to get clean shots or even walk between them sometimes. At Grassroots the cars are parked so far apart that you have the choice of shooting just one car or lining up a group with cars in both the fore and background. This made for some interesting shots.
One other thing that I wasn't expecting was the variety of cars there was something from every generation, all makes and models were on display and everything from a stock Miura to full Race Cars
I could've spent the entire day well into the evening shooting cars, there were so many different angles and ways to shoot with a completely picturesque tree lined background
For me these 2 events really gave me the creative fuel I needed going into the winter months and to help me prepare for the beginning of the year, which always starts off the
Tokyo Auto Salon setting the tone for the rest of the year.
It'll soon be next the start of the next year. Until then.
